Renovlies wallpaper: the perfect base for any wall
Shrinkage cracks in your new wall, dents in your older home, Renovlies wallpaper fixes it all. An explanation of how it works, thicknesses, application and pitfalls.

Walls that stay looking great, even after five years
You've just received the keys to a new-build, or you're renovating an older home. In both cases, you want smooth, flat walls that still look good a year and five years from now. No shrinkage cracks, no local dents, no repairs that stay visible.
Renovlies wallpaper is the material we apply as specialists every day in both situations. Below we explain what it is, why it works and when it's the right choice.
What is Renovlies wallpaper?
Renovlies wallpaper is a thick, fleece-like wallpaper made up of cellulose and textile fibres. No glass fibres, so no itchy particles during application. It works on two levels:
- Levelling: small imperfections in the surface are hidden.
- Crack-bridging: shrinkage cracks in the wall behind the wallpaper stay hidden behind the strip.
After application, the Renovlies is latex-painted in your chosen colour (RAL or standard white). The end result looks like plastered work, but at a significantly lower price and with better durability when shrinkage occurs.

Who is Renovlies the right choice for?
New-build key recipients receive walls that are officially delivered as "wallpaper-ready". In practice, they rarely are completely: concrete blemishes, formwork lines, moisture shrinkage. Renovlies handles these initial issues and stays smooth while the wall dries out during the first few years. Read our explanation of wallpaper-ready versus Renovlies.
Renovators doing up their existing home often deal with old paint layers, wallpaper residue, cracks around windows and doors, and varying surface types. Renovlies (in a slightly thicker variant, 180-200 grams) brings all of that to one smooth, flat surface.
People moving home who have just bought a house and want it move-in ready within a few weeks benefit from the speed: applying and latex-painting a floor of Renovlies can often be done within 3-5 working days.
The benefits of Renovlies
- Looks like plasterwork, but 30-50% cheaper
- Shrinkage cracks in the wall stay hidden
- Impact-resistant. less susceptible to dents than plasterwork
- The wallpaper material itself is shrink-free. no seams that pull open
- Strong and durable
- Fire-retardant
- Eco-friendly and free from harmful substances
- No itchy particles during application (unlike glass fibre weave)
- Can be repainted in any RAL colour, even later on
- Easy to repair if damaged
The difference between Renovlies, glass fleece and glass fibre weave
Renovlies is often compared to glass fleece and glass fibre weave. Important to know:
- Renovlies: cellulose + textile fibres, strong, impact-resistant, crack-bridging, the best "plaster effect", no itching.
- Glass fleece: compressed glass fibre, thinner, cheaper, suitable for smaller imperfections, can cause itching during wallpapering.
- Glass fibre weave: woven glass fibre, thicker and impact-resistant, often used in offices, causes itching and is therefore less suitable for a living room.
Renovlies is the all-rounder for homes. For the full comparison, read different types of wallpaper and glass fleece wallpaper up close.

Which thickness suits your situation?
Renovlies comes in four commonly used weights:
- 120 grams: light Renovlies, suitable for well-prepared walls with minimal imperfections.
- 150 grams: our standard for new-builds. A good balance between crack-bridging capacity and ease of application.
- 180 grams: for walls with larger imperfections or in older properties.
- 200 grams: for heavily damaged walls or where you want maximum impact resistance.
Detailed info per thickness can be found in our guide Renovlies thicknesses: how many grams per m²?.
And the downsides?
No material is perfect. Renovlies is more expensive than simple paper wallpaper, it's slightly less flexible when applying around arches and curved walls, and if it's applied carelessly you'll see seams or creases. Read our honest explanation in Renovlies downsides: the trade-offs.
Our working method
At Renovlies.net, one dedicated team handles the entire process: pre-treatment (machine sanding, removing concrete blemishes, filling, priming), applying Renovlies and latex painting. No handover to other tradespeople, no disputes over responsibility, no "should the previous crew have done that better".
Our 100% coverage guarantee means we apply the Renovlies so that the wall underneath is fully covered and stays that way. Does a crack still come through after a year? We'll come back.
